Fleeting clouds, breezy winds, swaying plants, seismic jolts, rocky landscapes: the inspirations for Métaphores 2021 collection are firmly anchored in the natural world. Its name—Eléments Terre— literally means “Earth Elements,” but also offers a pithy play on words. In French, it has the exact same pronunciation as the word for “elementary.”
Elements Terre brings together fabrics that are typified by a rhythmic sense of movement. Its patterns seem to pulsate, echoing the constant evolution of the natural world. Others display a
nebulous fluidity, while some shine with the profusion of their botanical patterns.
The new collection encapsulates Métaphores fundamentals: the rigorous selection of natural fibres enhanced by refined finishing, as well as a strong belief in sustainability.
Métaphores is renowned for its audacity and refinement. Its textiles display sensual qualities and rich textural effects celebrating the nobility of each fibre. Special attention is also given to
formulating subtle colourways. The result is unique fabrics that create a true sense of emotion. Its two heritage lines are also represented in Eléments Terre: the traditional Lyon-based silk
manufacturer Verel de Belval, and Le Crin, which boasts the only workshop in the world where horsehair is woven by hand. Both embody the house’s commitment to fine craftsmanship, and its focus on excellence that pervades all its creations. The know-how of times past is given a novel twist to produce textiles that are thoroughly of today.
Each new reference encompasses Métaphores commitment to ecological concerns. The house weaves its fabrics in its Lyon workshops, works solely with European partners, and favours local distribution networks. It also puts emphasis on quality and traceability of the materials. A special focus is placed on natural fabrics, such as linen, as well as durability in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint in the decades ahead.
And for the first time, a selection of fire-retardant contract fabrics has been incorporated into the main collection. They are at once resistant, washable and supple in a way that makes it difficult to distinguish them from the rest of the line
